Sphere of Labour and Loss

The FCA Ottawa Chapter is proud to support a member of the Ferrari Festival family, Kelmany Ross, in her Remembrence Day project.

Read Kelmany’s words about the project below and see her video description here.

Sphere of Labour and Loss

The Sphere of Labour and Loss contains 45,000 metres of yarn, one metre for every Canadian life lost during the Second World War. Wrapped by hand and covered with handmade poppies, it honours both wartime sacrifice and the women whose labour sustained families and communities through years of uncertainty, separation, and loss. Grey poppies are woven throughout the sphere as symbols of persecution and perseverance, remembering those interned during the war, including Italian Canadians, and the quiet absence their loss left behind.

More than a sculpture, this piece is an act of collective remembrance built by many hands across Canada.

A Special Thank You

The Lambretta Club of Canada would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to the Ottawa Ferrari Festival for its extraordinary support of this project.

The thousands of beautiful handmade poppies that form this installation were made & collected through the generosity of festival attendees, makers, volunteers, and community members connected through the Ottawa Ferrari Festival.

Without that support, the Sphere of Labour and Loss would not exist.

Every poppy represents time freely given, hands willing to create, and a shared commitment to remembrance. Together, those contributions have become something far greater than any one person could have achieved alone.

This installation stands as a testament to what can happen when a community comes together in gratitude, remembrance, and service to history.

Thank you for helping transform thousands of individual acts of kindness into a national tribute.
